COVID-19

Squiggle

We’re no strangers to safety.

With existing biosecurity safety procedures and a direct-to-consumer business model, we were well prepared for the pandemic pivot.

Baby greens and microgreens are fairly delicate. At the younger stages of a plant’s life, they are vulnerable to pathogens of all kinds. In order to protect our plants, we’ve always followed a strict biosecurity protocol, even before the COVID-19 pandemic began.

Anyone who comes into contact with the plants wears coveralls, clean boots, a hair net, a mask, and gloves (over washed hands). All handling of the plants happens in sealed, biosecure rooms including seeding, germinating, transplanting, feeding, harvesting, and packaging. These rooms exchanges existing air for fresh air every twenty minutes and none of our products ever come into contact with human hands between the time they are planted to the time they are packaged. We deliver our salads, mixes, and micros right to you, ensuring no contact with third-parties who may not follow such strict safety procedures.

In addition to our standard protocols, we send randomly selected plants to independent laboratories for pathogens testing, hold regular staff-wide COVID-19 meetings per CDC recommendations, sanitize high-touch surfaces multiple times daily, encourage employee testing if they think they have been exposed to COVID-19, and have set aside PTO hours for staff while they wait for their test results so they do not have to use their personal PTO for any time missed related to COVID-19.

We understand it is a confusing and unprecedented time. If you have any questions about our safety protocols in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, please send us an email at hello@planteddetroit.com.
