Rooted Here, Grown Together
From our vertical farm in Detroit's Islandview to classrooms and community gardens across the city, we're cultivating more than fresh greens—we're nurturing food education, environmental stewardship, and local resilience.

Planted Detroit works with various community partners to fight food insecurity, reduce food waste and promote education about vertical farming
Planted Detroit works with many community organizations to make an impact by donating seeds, soil, and recycled materials for community gardens, building and stocking a community fridge, and gathering at community meetings to share salads and fresh produce. It takes a village! We are proud to work with our community partners, including local schools, churches, block clubs, police and fire departments such as the Detroit Academy of Arts & Science, Wayne State University, Church of the Messiah, Field Street Block Club, Helen Street Block Club, Bailey Park, District 5 Police and Fire Departments, and others.
We believe in inspiring healthy habits at a young age is critical to changing communities. Planted Detroit not only supplies local schools with fresh produce grown year-round, but works with them to install growing systems in the classroom and attend field trips of our world class facility. Hands-on experiences inspire the kids to think about their career choices in computer science, engineering, robotics, or plant science, as well as providing access to nutrient-dense produce for students and their families in the community. We can't do it alone! We are proud to partner with Detroit Academy of Arts & Science, Wayne State University, Project Healthy Community and the Veggie Van, Detroit Public Schools, Lincoln Park Public Schools, Avondale Public Schools, and others.
Help Grow the Seeds of the Future
Food waste a major problem that needs to be mitigated by providing access to those that are food insecure. Jennine Spencer-Gilbert, Planted Detroit's Community Engagement Specialist, works with its community partners each week to donate nutrient-dense produce and read-to-eat salads to those in need.
