Our Farm FAQ

What makes Planted Detroit different from traditional farms?

We’re Michigan’s largest vertical farm, meaning we grow fresh, nutrient-dense greens indoors year-round using less water, no pesticides, and zero food miles from farm to fork.

Where is Planted Detroit located?

We’re right here in the city! Our farm is at 1000 Mt Elliott St, Detroit, MI 48207—growing fresh, local greens for our community.

What is vertical farming?

Vertical farming is a method of growing food in stacked layers indoors, using LED lighting and controlled environments. It lets us grow 365 days a year without the limitations of Michigan weather.

Are your greens really pesticide-free?

Yes! No pesticides, no herbicides, no chemicals—ever. Our greens are grown in a completely controlled, food-safe environment that keeps them fresh and clean.

How does vertical farming help the environment?

Our farm uses 95% less water than traditional farming, produces no chemical runoff, and reduces food miles—so you get the freshest greens with a smaller environmental footprint.

Why do your greens last longer than grocery store greens?

Because we grow locally and deliver fresh! Unlike store-bought greens that travel for days, ours go straight from our farm to your fridge, keeping them fresher for longer.

Do you use GMO seeds?

Nope! We only use non-GMO seeds, ensuring that everything we grow is as natural as possible.

What does “food-safe facility” mean?

It means we grow in a controlled environment with strict safety measures—no dirt, no bugs, no contamination. Our farm meets the highest standards for food safety.

How do you ensure your greens stay fresh and safe?

Our greens are grown indoors with filtered air and purified water, then harvested, packed, and sealed in a clean environment—so they reach you as fresh and safe as possible.

How does Planted Detroit support the local community?

We’re committed to fighting food insecurity and reducing food waste by partnering with local schools, nonprofits, and food rescue organizations to get fresh food to those who need it most.
